The CLARITY Act, stablecoin law, the SEC and CFTC — the rules being written for digital assets
30 stories · Updated 7h agoThe defining fight of this crypto era isn’t on a chart — it’s in committee rooms. Whether America writes real rules for digital assets decides where the industry’s capital, jobs, and builders live for a decade. This hub tracks every move: the CLARITY Act’s battle through Congress, stablecoin law, SEC and CFTC enforcement, and the senators and regulators deciding it — covered as politics, because that’s what it is.

- Who regulates crypto in the United States?
- Several agencies at once, which is the core problem. The SEC treats many tokens as securities, the CFTC oversees commodities and derivatives, FinCEN handles anti-money-laundering rules, the Treasury and banking regulators cover stablecoins and bank exposure, and states run their own licensing regimes. Market-structure legislation is the attempt to draw one map.
- What is market-structure legislation?
- A law that decides which digital assets are securities and which are commodities, which agency oversees each, and how exchanges, brokers, and issuers register. Without it, the rules are set case by case through enforcement, which is slow, expensive, and different under every administration.
- Why does stablecoin law matter so much?
- Stablecoins are the dollars of the crypto economy, and their reserves are large enough to matter to Treasury markets. Legislation sets who can issue them, what reserves they must hold, how they are audited, and what happens to holders if an issuer fails. It is the piece of crypto policy with the most direct link to the traditional financial system.
