NEWYORK

Coca-Cola, Procter & Gamble, Nestle and Reckitt have signaled additional price increases in 2027 to offset escalating input costs. The warnings arrive even as consumer demand shows resistance to higher grocery spending.

From a fixed-income perspective, the announcements extend duration risk. If companies successfully implement price increases despite demand elasticity, the disinflationary momentum the Federal Reserve needs to justify rate cuts stalls.

The Fed has tied further easing to sustained progress toward its 2 percent inflation target. Corporate guidance suggesting cost pass-through will persist into 2027 contradicts that narrative, likely keeping policy restrictive longer than markets have priced.

A prolonged hold on short rates would keep the front end of the yield curve elevated and compress spreads. Lower-rated issuers face dual pressure: higher refinancing costs and consumers pulling back on discretionary purchases.
