Who is JD Vance?
JD Vance is an American politician, author, and venture capitalist serving as the 50th Vice President of the United States since 2025. A member of the Republican Party, he previously represented the state of Ohio in the U.S. Senate. Vance gained national prominence with his 2016 memoir, *Hillbilly Elegy*, which received widespread attention for its insights into white working-class disaffection and was adapted into a film.
Career
Vance enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 2003, serving as a military journalist until 2007. After earning degrees from Ohio State University and Yale Law School, he pursued a brief career in corporate law before working for Peter Thiel's venture capital firm Mithril Capital. His memoir led to national recognition, and he subsequently served as a U.S. Senator for Ohio from 2023 to 2025 before becoming Vice President.
