Decentralized finance protocols are generating substantial revenue through distinct on-chain mechanisms. A top 10 revenue list compiled over the past week shows how different protocol models capture value from user interactions.
Decentralized exchanges like Uniswap and Curve generate income from trading fees, where a percentage of each swap flows to protocol treasuries or liquidity providers. These fees scale directly with trading volume.
Lending protocols such as Aave and Compound derive revenue from interest rate spreads. Borrowers pay interest on collateral, and the protocol retains a portion to cover operational costs or build reserves. Yield depends on utilization rates and asset-specific demand.
Liquid staking protocols including Lido and Rocket Pool capture a percentage of staking rewards from validators. Users deposit ETH for liquid staking tokens, and the protocol retains a fee from the underlying validator rewards.
Other revenue sources include bridge fees for cross-chain asset transfers and MEV capture through transaction reordering, with portions directed back to protocols.
