U.S. forces struck Iranian missile launchers on Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday. Iran's Islamic new Guard Corps responded the same day with a combined ballistic missile and drone attack on two U.S. air bases in Jordan, according to U.S. officials. Nearly all incoming missiles were intercepted, and no significant damage has been reported.
The IRGC said it targeted technical and maintenance infrastructure at King Hussein Air Base and Al-Azraq Air Base, claiming it inflicted "heavy damage." The U.S. has not confirmed the claim.
Ebrahim Azizi, head of the Iranian parliament's national security commission, vowed further retaliation on X, posting: "Test our will once more, and pay a heavier price. Retaliation is coming; JUST RUN!"
The military escalation drove oil prices higher. Brent crude climbed above $90 a barrel, rising $2.22, or 2.52 percent, to $90.32 as of 2202 GMT. West Texas Intermediate crude rose $2.01, or 2.41 percent, to $85.41 a barrel.
