Coinbase's tokenized equity push onto Base has found its first meaningful liquidity home: Uniswap. On-chain data shows $943.2K of the $960.3K in total DeFi deposits of Coinbase-issued stock tokens sitting inside Uniswap pools, split across v3 and v4. Every other venue on Base shares the remaining $16.1K.

The four tokens live under the ticker suffixes NVDAc, METAc, AAPLc and GOOGLc — tracking Nvidia, Meta, Apple and Alphabet respectively. Coinbase issued them under its B20 standard, with the underlying shares held by regulated custodian Alpaca. The structure puts real equity exposure directly on an EVM chain for the first time without routing through a walled-garden exchange product.

Uniswap's dominance at launch reflects its position as the deepest AMM on Base, but the concentration ratio — 98 percent of all stock-token liquidity in a single protocol — illustrates how early-stage this market remains. The aggregate $960.3K figure is small enough that a single large LP could move the needle materially in either direction.

The B20 standard is the mechanical backbone here. It defines how the token represents a custodied share, how redemptions work, and crucially, what DeFi integrations are permissible. Because the tokens are ERC-20 compatible, they slot into existing Uniswap v3 concentrated liquidity positions and v4 hook architecture without custom infrastructure. Liquidity providers can set price ranges against stablecoin pairs the same way they would with any other token pair on Base.

Alpaca's role as custodian defines the trust model. The shares are held off-chain by a regulated entity; the on-chain token is a claim on that custody. That structure mirrors how tokenized Treasury products such as Ondo's OUSG operate — a regulated custodian holds the underlying, an on-chain token represents the claim, and DeFi protocols interact only with the token layer. Equities carry no yield, so the DeFi utility case relies on trading and collateral use rather than carry.

Base positions itself as the settlement layer for this activity. Coinbase describes it as built for fast, low-cost transactions and already the leading on-chain venue for BTC and ETH spot trading. The L2 runs on the OP Stack and settles to Ethereum mainnet, giving Uniswap pools on Base the same security guarantees as equivalent pools on L1 at a fraction of the gas cost.

Chainlink is integrated into the stack for price feeds. Accurate, manipulation-resistant oracle pricing is non-negotiable for stock tokens: unlike crypto-native assets, the reference price is an off-chain equity market that closes on weekends and after hours. A Chainlink feed bridges that gap to allow Uniswap to price NVDAc against its real-world reference — Nvidia's spot price currently sits at $210.23.

Coinbase has said thousands more equities will follow the initial four tickers. The launch set of four — Nvidia, Meta, Apple and Alphabet — are among the most liquid U.S. large-caps and the most actively traded names in retail brokerage accounts, which makes them a logical first cohort for bootstrapping on-chain liquidity. If the pattern holds, Uniswap will remain the primary venue for early price discovery on each new addition simply because it requires no protocol-level integration work from issuers.

The $960.3K total deposit figure should be read against the broader tokenized-asset landscape for context. Tokenized Treasury protocols have accumulated billions in TVL over the past 18 months, with BlackRock's BUIDL and Ondo's OUSG leading that category. Equity tokens are starting from a far smaller base, and the regulatory path for U.S. persons trading tokenized stocks in DeFi remains unsettled — Coinbase has not specified publicly which jurisdictions can access the tokens without restriction.

For Uniswap, the stock token deposits add a new asset class to its Base liquidity without requiring a protocol upgrade. V4's hook architecture lets liquidity providers attach custom logic — time-weighted pricing, market-hours-only swaps, or KYC checks at the pool level — which addresses some of the compliance questions that arise when regulated equity exposure meets permissionless DeFi. Whether those hooks get deployed on the NVDAc or AAPLc pools is not yet confirmed in on-chain data.
