Who is Bill Gurley?
Bill Gurley is an American venture capitalist. Since 1999, he has been a general partner at Benchmark, a Silicon Valley venture capital firm based in San Francisco, California. He is best known for an early investment in Uber in 2011. Gurley is recognized in markets for his long tenure and significant investments within the venture capital sector.
Career
Prior to his investment career, Gurley worked as a design engineer at Compaq Computer and in the technical marketing group of AMD's embedded processor division. He then spent four years on Wall Street as a research analyst, including three years at CS First Boston, where he was called “one of Wall Street’s premier technology analysts.” He was also a partner at Hummer Winblad Venture Partners before becoming a general partner at Benchmark in 1999.
