ATHENS — A tornado spawned by an intense thunderstorm in Antalya, a coastal city in southwestern Turkey, killed four construction workers on Tuesday. Authorities in Greece and Turkey have issued severe rainfall and flooding warnings for the coming days as an area of low pressure affects southeastern Europe and Turkey.

Forecasters expect 100-150 millimeters of rain across central Greece and western parts of Turkey this week, with some localized areas receiving higher totals.

Further east, Cyclone Arnab made landfall in the Indian regions of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh, bringing wind gusts exceeding 140 kilometers per hour and rainfall exceeding 200 millimeters in some areas. Authorities evacuated more than 180,000 people from the affected regions. The storm caused widespread disruption to energy and transport infrastructure. Cyclone Arnab is expected to weaken as it moves northward but will continue delivering heavy rain to northern and central India.

In the western Pacific, Typhoon In-fa was upgraded to super typhoon status on Wednesday, with sustained winds of 240 kilometers per hour and gusts exceeding 296 kilometers per hour. The storm is traveling northwestward and is projected to bypass Guam, which Typhoon Champi struck earlier this month. Typhoon In-fa is expected to affect the Mariana Islands, a region already hit by four super typhoons this year.

Across the Pacific, Tropical Storm Vance has weakened to a tropical depression after bringing heavy rain and dangerous coastal conditions to western Mexico. The Mexican regions of Sinaloa, Durango and Nayarit recorded 50-100 millimeters of rain, with some areas exceeding 150 millimeters. High rainfall totals are expected to cause disruption from flooding and landslides, while storm swell is creating dangerous surf and rip current conditions off the coast.
