Raoul Pal, co-founder and CEO of Real Vision, stated on X today, October 27, 2026, that major technology companies are engaged in a historic capital expenditure cycle. Pal posted, "The hyperscalers are the biggest cash-generating businesses the world has ever seen. And they’re recycling all of that cash flow into the biggest capex build in history. It’s a self-reinforcing loop. They use the technology they’re building themselves, productivity rises, cash flows rise, capex accelerates. People worry about the borrowing, but these companies carry roughly 3.5% of their market cap in debt. They’re barely in debt at all. This is already the second largest capex event in history. The only bigger one was the railroads. and that cycle ran for 35 years. If intelligence keeps rising, capex keeps rising with it. There is no end to the need for data centers, compute and energy."
This statement comes as significant investments are being made in artificial intelligence infrastructure. Recent Gokhshtein Media coverage has highlighted South Korea's AI Chip Boom validating U.S. semiconductor upside and GE Vernova and ATI jumping on AI power infrastructure demand. The continued expansion of AI capabilities requires substantial investment in data centers, processing power, and energy resources, driving demand across various sectors.
Pal's analysis implies that the current capital expenditure boom, fueled by rising intelligence and technological advancements, is set for a prolonged period of growth, potentially mirroring the multi-decade cycle of the railroad era. He suggests that concerns about corporate debt levels among these companies may be overblown given their cash generation and relatively low debt-to-market cap ratios. Investors may want to watch for continued growth in companies supplying data center components, compute, and energy solutions.
