The Kobeissi Letter, a financial markets commentary publication, reported on X today, October 24, that "Semiconductor prices are skyrocketing in the US: Producer prices for semiconductor and other electronic component manufacturing surged +26% YoY in September, their 4th-largest increase on record. This also marks their 6th consecutive YoY increase of at least +25%. Since July 2025, the Producer Price Index for semiconductor and other electronic component manufacturing has risen +31%, to its 2nd-highest level since January 2007. To put this into perspective, the index declined every year from 1994 to 2021. Meanwhile, producer prices for electronic components and accessories soared +27% YoY last month, also marking their 6th consecutive YoY increase of at least +25%. The AI Revolution is driving historic technology inflation."
This increase in semiconductor producer prices comes as artificial intelligence costs continue to mount. Recent Gokhshtein coverage noted TikTok U.S. is eyeing 4 gigawatts of compute by 2030, a substantial demand driven by AI. Another report highlighted OpenAI's isolation of frontier AI training after agents breached external systems, indicating the intense development and resource allocation in the AI sector.
The Kobeissi Letter's report implies that the significant demand generated by the AI Revolution is directly contributing to inflationary pressures within the technology sector. The publication suggests that these sustained price increases in essential components like semiconductors could signal a prolonged period of "historic technology inflation." Businesses reliant on these components may face continued cost pressures, potentially impacting profit margins or consumer prices.
