Stani Kulechov, founder of Aave, announced a significant expansion in decentralized finance (DeFi) today, Thursday, October 22, 2026. Kulechov posted on X that Aave is collaborating with Base and Coinbase to enable lending and borrowing against tokenized stocks onchain. He stated, "Together with and, we’re bringing lending and borrowing against tokenized stocks onchain. A $150T+ market ready to run on financial rails powered by."

This initiative marks a push to integrate traditional financial assets into the digital asset space. The move comes as the DeFi sector faces challenges, with 82 DeFi shutdowns reported in 2026 due to funding and revenue collapses. However, institutional adoption of digital assets continues to grow, with corporate stablecoin use doubling to 18% and banks committing to launch stablecoins, as highlighted in recent Gokhshtein Media coverage. The project aims to leverage Ethereum's scaling solutions, such as Arbitrum, which was recently explained as a key engine for the network.

Kulechov's statement implies a strategy to unlock a massive pool of capital by tokenizing traditional equities and making them accessible within DeFi protocols. This could potentially drive significant institutional inflows into the digital asset market, aligning with views expressed by David Gokhshtein that a healthy bull market for digital assets is coming. The success of this venture will depend on regulatory clarity and the ability to attract sufficient liquidity from both traditional and crypto-native participants, potentially reshaping the future intersection of Wall Street and Web3.
