The Trump administration's Task Force to Eliminate Fraud estimates it can recover $1.5 billion annually by removing individuals enrolled simultaneously in Obamacare and either Medicare or Medicaid.
Dr. Mehmet Oz, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator, announced the findings Wednesday. The task force identified duplicate enrollees—including deceased individuals still receiving Obamacare subsidies—and people covered by both Obamacare and state Medicaid programs.
CMS officials described the overlapping enrollments as improper payments that drain federal resources. Removing these duplicates represents the administration's stated priority of cutting waste in federal health spending.
