Derivatives trading volume across 12 major crypto exchanges reached $3.84 trillion in September 2026, up 9.4 percent from August, as institutional and retail traders actively repositioned across futures markets.

Binance commanded the space with $1.78 trillion in derivatives trades and 46.5 percent market share. OKX followed with $698.8 billion (18.2 percent share), while Bybit claimed third with $405.6 billion (10.6 percent).

The top three exchanges collectively captured 75.3 percent of total derivatives volume, up from 74.7 percent in August—marking accelerating consolidation of liquidity on the dominant platforms.

Eight of the 12 exchanges tracked posted monthly gains, with only four declining. But the headline story sits in the futures-to-spot ratio compression: it fell to 5.51x in September from 6.87x in August, a 19.8 percent drop. That signals traders shifted toward spot accumulation relative to leveraged positioning—either de-risking or rotating into directional spot exposure alongside their derivatives bets.
