The United States Navy observed its 251st birthday today, marking more than two and a half centuries since its establishment in 1775.

The service has deployed generations of sailors on missions ranging from maritime security and humanitarian aid to combat operations. Sailors serve aboard aircraft carriers, submarines, destroyers and littoral combat ships, operating in strategic regions including the Pacific, Atlantic and Middle East.

The Navy's leadership, including Secretary of the Navy Carlos Del Toro and Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Lisa Franchetti, has emphasized recruitment and retention as critical to maintaining operational strength. Congress this year approved Navy budget appropriations for fleet modernization and personnel readiness.

Beyond direct military operations, the Navy conducts international partnerships and joint exercises designed to enhance global security and interoperability with allied forces. The service's mission remains focused on protecting U.S. interests, deterring aggression and maintaining freedom of the seas.
