RIYADH — Blasts resounded over the Saudi capital on Monday night in a continuation of aerial attacks targeting Riyadh. The strikes followed a series of missile hits on Riyadh's airport over the weekend, particularly on Oct. 10.
The Saudi-led coalition, which has intervened in Yemen's civil war since 2015, said it intercepted a Houthi missile but provided no immediate details on damage or casualties from Monday's incident.
Television footage showed the Oct. 10 strike striking Riyadh's airport directly. Those weekend attacks resulted in an unspecified number of deaths.
The Houthi movement, an Iran-backed group fighting Yemen's internationally recognized government, claimed responsibility for the attacks. Houthi officials said the United States would face a "painful response" if it chose to enter the conflict directly.
The repeated targeting of Riyadh and its international airport has tested Saudi air defenses. The conflict in Yemen has created a humanitarian crisis and frequently spills across the border into Saudi territory through missile and drone attacks.
