Spotify is expanding audiobook access to more than 180 markets starting today, more than tripling its footprint from 22 markets and reaching over 750 million potential users across Europe, the Americas, Africa, and Asia.
The company will offer more than 350,000 titles in over 120 languages. Premium subscribers in Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Norway, and Peru get 12 hours of audiobooks included; broader access comes via Audiobook+, a standalone subscription with a 15-hour monthly allowance that has attracted more than 1 million subscribers and generated over $100 million in annual recurring revenue.
Spotify secured partnerships with over 300 publishers, including Planeta and Mondadori, to support the rollout. The company will introduce Audiobook+ as an add-on for student plans in select regions starting in November.
The audiobook segment grew 40 percent in monthly listeners and 30 percent in total listening hours over the past year. Page Match, a feature launched in February that lets users scan a physical book page to sync with the audiobook, reached 1 million monthly users. Spotify also launched Audiobook Charts for discovery and built an AI tool with ElevenLabs to help authors convert books into audiobooks. The company is testing physical book sales through its platform in the U.S. and U.K.
Individual titles are also available for direct purchase. The bundle of access models targets different consumer segments to drive revenue beyond core music streaming.
