WASHINGTON — Senior Political Correspondent Amie Parnes focuses on the 2028 presidential race, analyzing early partnerships and discussions among potential White House contenders. Parnes highlights instances such as Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) and Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.) appearing together in Georgia, which drew attention from political observers as a possible 2028 Democratic ticket.
Parnes, a veteran political journalist, has served as a senior correspondent for The Hill since 2024. Her current tenure follows an earlier period at the publication from 2011 to 2023.
Before rejoining The Hill, Parnes was the chief White House correspondent for The Messenger. She held that position from the site's launch in May 2023 until its closure in Jan. 2024.
Her career also includes reporting for CNN and Politico. Parnes first joined Politico as a staff writer in Dec. 2007, where she covered the 2008 presidential election and the Obama administration.
Parnes' initial interest in political journalism emerged during an internship with The New York Times in 2000. Her first major news story involved covering the 2000 United States presidential election recount in Florida.
She later partnered with journalist Jonathan Allen to co-author two best-selling books about Hillary Clinton. Their first collaboration, "HRC: State Secrets and the Rebirth of Hillary Clinton," was published on Feb. 11, 2014.
For the book, Parnes and Allen interviewed more than 200 sources, including Clinton herself and members of her inner circle. These sources also encompassed advisers and aides from Clinton's 2008 presidential campaign.
Despite becoming a New York Times Best Seller, the book faced negative critical reception. Critics cited a perception that the authors portrayed Clinton too sympathetically. Jodi Kantor of The New York Times accused Clinton's senior adviser, Philippe Reines, of meddling in the reporting.
A revelation from their reporting was the existence of an "enemies list" compiled by Clinton's 2008 campaign staff. This list categorized Democratic politicians based on their perceived loyalty, specifically noting those who had endorsed Barack Obama.
Politicians on the list were assigned ratings from one to seven, with a seven indicating the most perceived ingratitude for Clinton's past support. Democratic congresspeople rated a seven included Claire McCaskill, John Kerry and Jason Altmire.
Crown Publishing Group announced in April 2014 that Allen and Parnes would collaborate on a second book focusing on Clinton's 2016 presidential campaign. Parnes' latest book is titled "FIGHT: Inside the Wildest Battle for the White House."
Parnes continues to analyze the strategic positioning of candidates for 2028, including discussions around figures like former Vice President Kamala Harris, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and the implications for Jewish candidates.
