META announced a new enterprise AI business Monday, appointing former MongoDB CEO Chirantan Desai as chief enterprise platform officer to lead the charge.

The unit will sell Meta's full AI technology stack—including the Muse agent, Meta Business Agent, Muse API, and Muse Code—directly to enterprise customers and developers. CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the platform would leverage Meta's "advanced models, leading agents, large-scale infrastructure, and years of working closely with many businesses."

Desai's hire signals Meta's intent to compete directly against OpenAI and Anthropic in enterprise AI. At MongoDB, he drove the company's pivot into application development platforms. At ServiceNow, he was president and chief operating officer for nearly eight years. He also held leadership roles at Cloudflare.

The move reflects Meta's capital allocation calculus: its consumer AI app Muse hit the top of the App Store charts this month with over 2.5 million downloads in its first week—outpacing Claude and Grok's launch windows, though trailing ChatGPT's 3.1 million. That traction gave the company a reason to formalize an enterprise strategy around the same technology.

Meta is also betting on its Muse Charm, a pocket-sized device that runs only its AI. Small AI gadgets have struggled—the Rabbit R1 flopped in 2024—but Meta sees consumer hardware as a hedge against phones and glasses, locking users into its agent ecosystem.

Meta stock closed down 4.0 percent at $721.51 today.
