Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) is launching an aggressive six-week campaign tour targeting more than 40 congressional districts across 22 states through Election Day. The travel schedule aims to protect the Republican House majority and gain ground in competitive races.
Johnson's itinerary splits evenly between defending Republican-held seats and campaigning in Democratic-held districts the GOP views as pickup opportunities. The push comes as political momentum appears to shift toward Democrats heading into the midterms.
"With less than 40 days until the midterm election, Republicans are not slowing down as we give voters a clear choice," Johnson said in a statement.
The Louisiana Republican has already set new fundraising records for a House speaker during a midterm cycle. His campaign fundraising through the second quarter surpassed all previous Republican speakers.
Johnson completed an 18-state campaign swing in August, raising more than $4 million that directly supported battleground districts critical to the party's strategy.
President Donald Trump plans to campaign for Republican candidates in the final 30 days before the midterms. Trump indicated he will rely on Johnson to identify specific races where Republican candidates are closely contested or winning by narrow margins.
