The Charlotte Hornets waived Rob Dillingham, the No. 8 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, two days after acquiring him from the Chicago Bulls.
The Hornets traded veteran sharpshooter Buddy Hield and cash considerations to Chicago for Dillingham on Sept. 26. The decision to release him 48 hours later is highly unusual and suggests either an unforeseen issue or a rapid shift in Charlotte's roster strategy.
Dillingham, a Kentucky product from Hickory, North Carolina, never played a game for the Hornets. He is now available on waivers to any NBA team.
The move raises questions about Charlotte's asset management after moving a proven veteran in Hield for a draft pick the team immediately released.
