NEW YORK
Jalen Brunson is fully cleared for the 2026-27 NBA season. The Knicks guard underwent left wrist surgery this offseason and announced his recovery Thursday during a live recording of his "Roommates Show" podcast at Randall's Island Park.
"As you guys know, I had surgery this offseason," Brunson said. "Just want to tell you guys I am fully cleared."
Brunson co-hosts the podcast with Knicks teammate Josh Hart. He said he played through the injury during the Knicks' championship run, beginning to notice discomfort late in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference finals against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
In the 2026 NBA Finals, Brunson averaged 32.6 points, 4.6 assists, 4.2 rebounds and 2.0 steals across five games. The Knicks defeated the San Antonio Spurs to win their first championship in 53 years.
During the entire 2026 playoffs, Brunson posted 28.4 points per game, 6.1 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 1.2 steals in 36.9 minutes per game, shooting 46.5 percent from the field, 36.3 percent from 3-point range and 84.6 percent from the foul line. He was named MVP of the Eastern Conference finals and NBA Finals.
Training camp will open following the Knicks' media day. The team faces roster questions heading into the season, including how Andre Drummond will replace departed center Mitchell Robinson and which veterans — Bruce Brown, John Konchar, Drew Eubanks, James Wiseman and Ochai Agbaji — will earn opening-night spots.
The front office is also focused on reaching a contract extension with star big man Karl-Anthony Towns before the season begins.
