The XRP Ledger's Batch V1.1 upgrade is one validator vote short of official activation. Twenty-seven of the 35 trusted validators currently support the proposal, representing 77 percent of the network's voting power as of September 15.
The upgrade requires 80 percent approval from trusted validators—meaning one more vote unlocks the 14-day activation countdown. Once secured, that supermajority must hold for two continuous weeks before Batch V1.1 integrates into mainnet.
Batch V1.1 lets users bundle up to eight related transactions into a single atomic operation. The critical use case: token swaps where both parties' exchanges complete simultaneously or fail together. This eliminates the counterparty risk of one side executing while the other gets stuck.
RippleX, the development team behind XRP Ledger, fixed 11 vulnerabilities in the Batch V1.1 code ahead of activation, addressing flaws in digital signatures, authorization checks, and server crash vectors.
The current proposal follows an earlier, undeployed Batch version that contained a severe security flaw: attackers could bundle other users' account transactions without explicit approval under specific conditions. Developers redesigned the upgrade to prevent that exploit, producing the V1.1 iteration now at validators' doors.
Once Batch V1.1 goes live, it opens the door to more sophisticated on-chain operations—critical for protocols and traders executing multi-leg swaps on the XRP Ledger.
