A whale deployed $85.42 million in USDC to acquire 1,075.6 Bitcoin over four days, concluding the accumulation on Sept. 12 through THORChain's cross-chain routing.
The purchase routed approximately $170,000 in fees through THORChain, signaling a preference for decentralized, non-custodial infrastructure over centralized exchanges for large capital movements. The average execution price came to $79,412 per Bitcoin, according to on-chain monitoring by Lookonchain and Ember.
The activity marks a return to trading after an eight-month hiatus. Before the pause, the address liquidated 50,600 ETH for roughly $19 million in profit—a strategic de-risking ahead of the current Bitcoin accumulation.
Earlier in the same period, the same address swapped 14.2 million USDC for 179.8 BTC at approximately $79,000 per coin, indicating sustained buying pressure across multiple entry points.
The whale's buying aligns with broader whale accumulation patterns from earlier this year. Bitcoin whales collectively added 270,000 BTC in the 30 days ending April 20—approximately $23 billion in notional value and the largest monthly whale inflow since 2013. Such sustained inflows from large holders can move market liquidity and shift on-chain positioning dynamics.
Bitcoin currently trades at $77,310, roughly $2,100 below the whale's average acquisition cost.
