Fixed-income strategists are parsing the longer-term implications. If widely adopted, such AI agents could lift aggregate supply by reducing labor inputs per unit of output, potentially moderating wage pressures in labor-intensive sectors. That structural productivity gain is precisely what central banks monitor when assessing non-inflationary growth capacity.

Sustained productivity advances lower unit labor costs, exerting disinflationary pressure over time. That shifts long-term inflation expectations—the mechanism that typically compresses term premiums at the long end of the Treasury curve. Investors would demand less compensation for inflation risk, flattening the curve and reshaping duration allocations across institutional portfolios. Longer-duration assets would outperform if the Federal Reserve holds short-term rates steady.
