Arroyo made his professional debut at age 18 with the Low-A Modesto Nuts, posting a.234/.389/.373 line in 265 California League plate appearances. He was hit by pitches 18 times that season. In the playoffs, he went 9-for-16 with a double, triple, home run and four walks.
