Zcash (ZEC) broke through $1,000 on Friday, hitting $1,021—an eight-year high for the privacy-focused asset.
The catalyst is unmissable: Grayscale's new ZCSH spot ETF, live just two weeks, has already pulled $414 million in net inflows. This is the first regulated U.S. vehicle for privacy coin exposure, and institutional money is flowing in.
Zach Pandl, Grayscale's Head of Research, frames the thesis clearly: "We need privacy solutions. Zcash definitely can be one part of the privacy solutions." His argument extends further—he sees financial privacy becoming a "must have" feature as AI scales.
Grayscale's research models ZEC reaching $8,100 if it captures just 10 percent of Bitcoin's current market share. That conviction is baked into the product launch itself.
The derivatives markets confirm accumulation. On the August 22 rally, futures open interest hit $1.76 billion, with 24-hour volume at $9.54 billion. That's real trader engagement, not speculation noise.
This move is institutional, not retail-driven. Grayscale's ETF conversion work in August helped push ZEC past $800. Now the spot product is doing the heavy lifting. Privacy coins, long dismissed as regulatory risk, are entering the mainstream institutional stack.
