MARVELL Technology (MRVL) stock dropped 7 percent in after-hours trading following its second-quarter fiscal 2027 earnings report, despite beating consensus on earnings per share at $0.94 versus $0.93 expected.
The post-earnings decline extends Marvell's pullback to 35.6 percent from its 52-week high. Yet most Wall Street analysts remain bullish. Their conviction stems from robust customer demand for data center products and bookings suggesting a multiyear growth cycle.
Management raised full-year guidance sharply. For fiscal 2027, Marvell now projects total revenue of nearly $11.5 billion, up about 40 percent year-over-year. The data center segment alone is expected to grow approximately 50 percent.
Interconnect products will drive the expansion. Marvell raised its Interconnect growth forecast to exceed 70 percent, up from an earlier 50 percent projection. This business capitalizes on demand for 1.6-terabit networking as hyperscalers build out AI clusters.
Management guided for Q2 fiscal 2027 revenue of $2.7 billion—a 12 percent sequential jump and 35 percent year-over-year increase. Data center revenue is expected to accelerate to mid-to-high-teens sequential growth and approximately 45 percent year-over-year, compared to 11 percent sequential and 27 percent year-over-year in Q1.
Marvell revised its trajectory upward after Q1 results. The company now expects double-digit sequential growth in Q2, and at least 10 percent sequential growth in Q3 and Q4. This path could deliver $3 billion in quarterly revenue by Q3—earlier than initially planned.
Communications and other end markets are projected to grow around 10 percent, a slower pace than Interconnect but a meaningful diversification of revenue streams.
Hyperscaler capital spending on AI infrastructure remains robust, creating durable demand for semiconductor suppliers like Marvell. The networking and computing infrastructure required for AI workloads translates into sustained bookings and improved revenue visibility.
Options data supports a bullish view. MRVL shows a 0.53 put/call ratio, indicating more call buying. Historical earnings reactions have ranged from 18 percent gains to 20 percent losses—volatility typical for semiconductor plays during strong upswings.
