A four-story building in Sao Paulo's Bela Vista neighborhood collapsed shortly after 10:00 AM local time on Rua Major Diogo, injuring four people. Emergency services including fire brigades and civil defense teams established a security perimeter and began searching the debris.

Four people—two women and two men—received treatment at the scene for injuries ranging from minor cuts to fractures. All were transported to Hospital Santa Casa de Misericórdia with non-life-threatening injuries.

The structure housed a ground-floor commercial business with residential apartments above. Local residents reported hearing a loud cracking sound moments before the collapse, which sent dust across the street.

More than 80 firefighters and 30 civil defense agents are involved in the ongoing operation. Sao Paulo's Municipal Secretary of Urban Infrastructure, Ricardo Nunes, said the immediate focus is ensuring no further collapses occur in adjacent structures. The city's building inspection department will conduct a full review of the structure's maintenance history and permits.

The exact cause remains unknown. Initial theories range from structural fatigue to potential illegal modifications. Civil Defense engineers are collecting samples and examining original blueprints to determine contributing factors. A preliminary report is expected by the end of the week, with a comprehensive investigation continuing for several months.
