Hyperliquid Strategies formally applied to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission for Futures Commission Merchant registration, positioning itself to carry U.S. client accounts on its permissioned HYPE perpetual futures markets.

The company reported $620.6 million in net income for Q3, primarily from unrealized HYPE token gains. FCM registration requires CFTC oversight, including capital requirements and customer protection rules.

Hyperliquid operates a purpose-built Layer 1 blockchain for on-chain perpetual futures. Its native HYPE token, airdropped on Nov. 29, 2024, ranks among the largest crypto tokens by market capitalization.

The filing signals intent to expand regulated offerings to U.S. customers. Permissioned markets will enforce Know Your Customer and Anti-Money Laundering protocols, ensuring compliance with federal derivatives frameworks.

The reliance on unrealized token gains for Q3 results is common among crypto companies holding substantial native treasuries. These gains fluctuate with market price and differ from operational revenue generated by trading fees. FCM approval would create a new regulated revenue stream from U.S. customer activity.

The CFTC will now evaluate Hyperliquid Strategies' operational and financial compliance readiness before granting approval.
