OliveCo (OLVC) shares plummeted 19 percent, closing at $78.50, after Mediterranean Foods Group (MEDF) and Terra Brands Inc. (TRRA) announced a $4.5 billion merger expected to close by end of Q1 next year. The combined entity will control an estimated 28 percent of the global olive oil market, directly challenging OliveCo's dominant 35 percent share in high-volume U.S. and European retail channels.

The consolidation creates immediate downside risk for OliveCo investors. Jane Doe, equity analyst at Bullish Research, downgraded OLVC to Hold from Buy and cut her price target to $85 from $105, citing eroding competitive moats and increased promotional activity risk. Doe said OliveCo must pursue an accretive acquisition or implement aggressive cost cuts to defend profitability.
