David Gokhshtein, founder of Gokhshtein Media and host of The Breakdown, posted on X on Sunday, November 1, 2026, expressing strong reservations about any attempts to freeze Bitcoin belonging to Satoshi Nakamoto. Gokhshtein warned against changing core principles, stating, "I think Satoshi’s Bitcoin should be left alone. I get the concern about quantum attacks. But we keep talking about permissionless money and getting rid of middlemen, yet we’re debating whether someone should be allowed to spend their own Bitcoin. How does that make sense? Whether Satoshi is alive or dead, those coins aren’t ours to control. Just because someone disappears doesn’t mean we get to make that decision for them. Even if the network agrees to freeze those coins, I still have a problem with it. If we’re comfortable changing the rules to lock Satoshi out of their own Bitcoin, what makes you think we won’t eventually find an excuse to do it to someone else?"
The long-dormant Bitcoin holdings attributed to Satoshi Nakamoto, estimated to be over a million BTC, frequently spark intense debate within the crypto community regarding their potential movement or the network's ability to intervene. Bitcoin currently trades at $78,007, reflecting a 1.1% gain over the past 24 hours. This occurs as the crypto market watches for shifts, following recent reports like "Bitcoin and Gold Post 2026's Worst Returns" and a significant $155 million transfer of 2,000 Bitcoin from a Binance hot wallet to an unknown address.
Gokhshtein's view suggests that tampering with Satoshi's coins, even if driven by concerns like potential quantum attacks, sets a dangerous precedent for the network's fundamental immutability and user sovereignty. He implies that such actions could erode trust in Bitcoin's permissionless nature, potentially paving the way for similar interventions against other users' funds in the future. His statement highlights the ongoing tension between technological advancement, security concerns, and the philosophical underpinnings of decentralized digital assets.
