Baseten, which builds infrastructure for deploying machine learning models at scale, is raising approximately $2 billion in new capital at valuations ranging from $26 billion to $30 billion. The fundraising follows a $1.5 billion Series C in June that valued the company at $13 billion.

The speed of the valuation jump—more than doubling in four months—reflects a specific economic dynamic: enterprises have AI models in development but lack efficient ways to move them into production. Baseten monetizes that bottleneck by reducing the operational complexity and infrastructure costs of running ML workloads. For SaaS multiples at this stage, that positions the company at a critical chokepoint in the enterprise AI stack.

The two-tranche structure suggests different investor cohorts or terms—a typical late-stage mechanism that allows flexibility on share classes or milestone-based pricing. Both valuations still imply investors believe Baseten's unit economics justify multiples tied to high-margin, high-growth deployment services.

The capital requirements across the AI infrastructure layer have intensified sharply. Companies providing core tooling for model operationalization—reducing time-to-market and lowering per-inference costs—command premium valuations because they sit between raw compute (GPUs, cloud) and end applications. Baseten competes in that segment alongside established cloud vendors' native MLOps offerings and newer platforms like Replicate and Modal, all chasing the same enterprise deployment wave.
