Bitcoin spot exchange-traded funds registered net outflows totaling $636 million on Thursday, erasing the prior session's inflows and signaling a reversal in near-term institutional positioning.
BlackRock's IBIT led the withdrawal, recording $254.1 million in net outflows. Four other spot Bitcoin ETFs experienced capital reductions during the session, together accounting for the full outflow total.
The timing coincides with a 2.6 percent decline in the Nasdaq, suggesting macroeconomic headwinds rather than asset-specific weakness. The Crypto Fear & Greed Index closed at 50, reflecting neutral market sentiment.
Single-day reversals in spot Bitcoin ETF flows are not uncommon. Since approval in January 2024, these products have recorded alternating cycles of inflows and outflows reflecting shifts in institutional allocation and profit-taking.
The outflows likely reflect portfolio rebalancing rather than a directional bearish signal. Investors rotating capital into spot Ethereum ETFs, futures markets, or direct custody positions would not appear in spot Bitcoin ETF flow data.
