SLF, a super PAC, filed its pre-general election report showing millions in contributions from corporate interests and wealthy donors as the November races enter their final phase.
The National Association of Realtors contributed $5 million in this filing, bringing their total to SLF for the cycle to $10 million, making the real estate lobby one of the committee's largest backers.
Altria, the tobacco giant, added $1.5 million, raising its cycle total to $5 million. Cliff Asness, co-founder of AQR Capital Management, donated $2 million. Daniel Loeb, founder and CEO of Third Point LLC, contributed $100,000. Joe Popolo, the United States Ambassador to the Netherlands, gave $100,000.
The pre-general filing, due before Election Day, reveals which industries and individuals are placing their biggest bets on the outcome. Groups like the National Association of Realtors and Altria use such donations to shape legislative priorities, while hedge fund managers like Asness and Loeb gain access to the political process.
