OpenAI acquired Orchestra Bio, a four-year-old biotech software startup, integrating its team and technology into the company's Rosalind AI model and Rosalind Workbench tool.

Orchestra Bio had raised approximately $20 million from backers including Andreessen Horowitz, Atria and 8VC. The startup built AI agents designed to automate drug-discovery workflows for biotech companies—handling financial tracking, clinical trial scheduling and other operational tasks that typically consume researcher time.

The Rosalind Workbench already serves as OpenAI's platform for experiment planning and analysis. The Orchestra acquisition enhances that offering with specialized workflow automation capabilities.

OpenAI has already embedded Rosalind into workflows at Moderna and Novo Nordisk, establishing a foothold in the high-value pharmaceutical sector. The deal reflects a consolidation pattern: as large AI labs build vertical solutions for enterprise clients, smaller startups either develop competing features independently or become acquisition targets. Orchestra Bio's $20 million raise provided an exit, while OpenAI captured proven IP and a team with domain expertise in biotech operations.

OpenAI did not disclose deal terms.
