AXON ENTERPRISE stock has fallen 54 percent from its 2025 peak, but the sell-off has created a genuine buying opportunity for long-term equity investors.

The market is discounting near-term margin compression and reduced cash flow guidance without properly weighing the strategic value of Axon's AI investments and its fortress-like economic moat in law enforcement technology. At 12x price-to-sales, down from 30x at the 2025 peak, the stock is cheap enough to justify a position.

Axon is the dominant integrated provider of hardware and software to U.S. law enforcement. Its product suite spans Taser electrical weapons, body cameras, dashboard cameras, and Records Management System software for evidence and investigations. The combination creates a high-switching-cost ecosystem that locks in customers and drives recurring revenue.

The company's proof point is near-flawless execution. Since 2019, Axon has delivered 25 percent revenue growth or better in every quarter except one. Over the past decade, the stock has returned more than 1,500 percent.

The near-term pain is real but temporary. Gross margin in the software and services segment dropped 430 basis points to 71.3 percent in the most recent quarter due to higher professional services mix and scaling of new products—primarily Draft One, Axon's generative AI tool that writes first drafts of police reports by analyzing video footage. Management cut full-year cash flow guidance to fund these investments.

But the margin compression is a feature, not a bug. The software and services segment grew 36 percent despite the margin decline, proving that Axon is deploying capital into high-return products, not wasting it. Once Draft One scales and professional services tail off as a percentage of mix, gross margins will recover. Axon has not guided to margin recovery, which leaves upside to surprise.

The stock's current valuation reflects pessimism that is unwarranted. Yes, 12x sales is expensive relative to the overall software market, but Axon grows faster than most large software businesses and operates in a market with strong secular tailwinds—law enforcement digitization and AI-driven workflow automation. The company's pricing power, customer stickiness, and recurring revenue model justify a 15x to 18x multiple once the AI investment cycle matures and cash flow guidance is restored.

Buy Axon for investors with a 12-to-24-month horizon. Watch for management commentary on gross margin recovery and Draft One adoption rates in the next two quarterly earnings reports. If margin stabilizes above 72 percent and the company reinstates cash flow growth guidance, the stock could rally 40 to 60 percent from current levels.
