Michaël van de Poppe, founder of MN Trading and a prominent market analyst, posted on X on Sunday, October 18, 2026, sharing his outlook on Bitcoin's immediate price trajectory. Van de Poppe observed a tightening range for the cryptocurrency, suggesting a significant shift is approaching. He wrote, "The price action of #Bitcoin is getting more narrow. That means; volatility goes down, range gets tight. Big move is on the horizon, but in order to get that, we might see a fake move first. That fake move could be towards my 'blue box' which is at <$80,000. Touched it once, wouldn't be surprised if we touch this twice as that would be an ideal area for entries. If Bitcoin breaks above the crucial resistance of $82,000, that's where we'll start to see acceleration and most likely a rally towards $90,000."
Bitcoin has been trading around the $81,500 mark recently, as reported in Gokhshtein Media's coverage titled Bitcoin Holds $81,500 as Short-Term Bears Test Long-Term Support. The cryptocurrency has seen varied sentiment, with the Crypto Fear & Greed Index currently at 53, indicating a neutral market. Recent news also included reports of the NY State Pension Fund buying Bitcoin exposure, suggesting growing institutional interest.
Van de Poppe's analysis implies that traders should anticipate increased volatility following a period of consolidation. He suggests that a dip below $80,000 might present a strategic entry point before a potential rally. Conversely, a decisive break above the $82,000 resistance level would, in his view, confirm an upward acceleration, leading towards a $90,000 target.
