President Donald Trump warned that a Democratic electoral victory would trigger a "1929-style economic depression," while promising that a Republican win would deliver "$5,000 in your pocket" to each American.
Trump also claimed he recently gave every active-duty service member $1,776 in additional compensation. "Everybody said that can't be done," he said, referring to what he described as a previous military pay increase.
The $1,776 figure carries symbolic weight—the year the Declaration of Independence was signed. Trump has long positioned himself as a defender of military interests.
The stark economic framing is central to Trump's campaign argument: vote Republican for direct financial gain, or vote Democratic and face economic calamity. Whether such payments would be feasible or funded remained unspecified.
