Standard Chartered activated institutional custody for Ripple's RLUSD stablecoin through its Dubai International Financial Centre branch, rolling out support on the XRP Ledger.

The move gives eligible institutions access to the bank's digital asset custody infrastructure for RLUSD. Standard Chartered announced the launch Oct. 12, 2026.

The bank plans to extend a collateral-mirroring model to LMAX Group, an institutional trading company. The mechanism allows clients to use RLUSD as trading collateral while keeping tokens in Standard Chartered's custody—LMAX recognizes the value of eligible holdings without clients transferring stablecoins to its platform.

The model reduces transfer risk and counterparty exposure by keeping assets within the bank's secure vault. Ripple and LMAX Group announced a partnership in January 2026 focused on expanding institutional adoption of the stablecoin.

The collateral capabilities remain subject to final documentation, comprehensive testing, regulatory requirements and internal approvals within Standard Chartered.
