Russian oligarch Umar Kremlev said Donald Trump Jr. has reimbursed him $170,000 for expenses Kremlev covered for the president's son's private-island wedding—a payment that had drawn ethics scrutiny over potential foreign influence.

Kremlev's public acknowledgment of the reimbursement came without corroboration from Trump Jr. or the White House. Neither has issued a statement confirming or detailing the repayment.

The initial contribution raised alarms among ethics watchdogs. A prominent Russian figure bankrolling a six-figure wedding expense for the son of a sitting U.S. president created the appearance of a foreign national cultivating favor with the Trump family—precisely the kind of financial entanglement that foreign influence laws are designed to police.

The reimbursement, if confirmed, would resolve the transaction as a loan rather than a gift, eliminating the appearance of reciprocal obligation. But without Trump Jr.'s verification, Kremlev's claim remains one side of the story.
