STRASBOURG — A satirical statue of U.S. President Donald Trump, titled "Orange Plague," is on display at the European Parliament building here. The 2.5-meter sculpture, also known as "King of Injustice," was created by Danish artist Jens Galschiot and depicts Trump naked, holding a gold club while seated on the shoulders of a smaller man sinking under the weight. The entire piece is coated in 23-karat gold.
Accompanying explanatory cards state that the figure is "sitting on the back of a man" who is drowning under the burden, with a quote attributed to the smaller figure: "I would do anything to help him. Except stepping down from his back." Galschiot uses the work to criticize Trump's opposition to climate action.
The statue is positioned at an intersection connecting two parliament buildings and is scheduled to remain through Thursday. Per Clausen, a left-wing Danish member of the European Parliament, invited the exhibit.
"If someone is so thin-skinned that they cannot tolerate this sculpture being exhibited in the European Parliament, then they have no place on the world stage," Clausen said.
The "Orange Plague" statue has been exhibited previously in other European cities and at the COP30 UN climate conference in Belem, Brazil. Trump has not commented publicly on the display.
