Robinhood added $25 million in Bitcoin to its corporate balance sheet, marking the brokerage's first direct proprietary holding of the asset. Senior Vice President Johann Kerbrat, who oversees crypto and international businesses, framed the purchase as a signal of commitment to the ecosystem.
The acquisition is modest relative to Robinhood's $100 billion market cap, but it moves the company from zero Bitcoin holdings to active holder. Kerbrat said the move demonstrates alignment with the crypto community.
The balance sheet addition coincides with Robinhood's perpetual futures launch for eligible U.S. customers, facilitated through Bitstamp. The contracts offer up to 10x leverage on Bitcoin and Ether, with 3x leverage on other digital assets. Robinhood charges 0.01 percent per trade through year-end.
Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev confirmed on X that the perpetual contracts have no expiry date, with profit-and-loss settlements every 15 minutes. This structure allows continuous trading without traditional futures expiration mechanics.
Robinhood launched its proprietary blockchain mainnet in July and operates Robinhood Wallet across more than 120 countries. The company reports 28 million funded accounts globally, with 27 million in the United States.
Bitcoin traded at $83,733, down 2.8 percent in 24 hours. Ether fell 4.9 percent to $2,580. The Crypto Fear & Greed Index stood at 71, signaling greed sentiment.
