BERLIN — Mercedes-Benz reported an 8 percent year-on-year decline in car sales during the third quarter, citing challenging market conditions in China as the primary driver.
The company delivered 407,200 units globally from July through September, according to a statement released Wednesday. In China, Mercedes-Benz saw a 31 percent drop, delivering 86,800 units compared to the same period last year.
Sales in the Top-End segment, which includes its most luxurious models, fell 21 percent to 53,900 units. The company attributed the decline to weakness in China and ongoing model changeovers.
Other regions showed growth. Car sales in the United States rose 6 percent, while European deliveries increased 5 percent during the quarter.
Battery-electric vehicle deliveries, which include both cars and vans, climbed 52 percent year-on-year to 78,100 units.
