President Donald Trump on Tuesday launched America.gov, an artificial intelligence platform designed to streamline interactions between Americans and the federal government. The White House said the platform will eventually allow users to renew passports and enroll in Medicare.
At the core is a chatbot intended to provide accurate answers to citizen questions, according to the executive order Trump signed. But the AI tool has delivered responses that directly contradict several of the President's past and recent assertions.
When asked about the 2020 election results, the America.gov chatbot stated: "Joseph R Biden Jr won the 2020 U.S. presidential election," and cited the number of electoral college votes Biden secured. This directly counters Trump's repeated claims that he won the election.
The bot also refuted Trump's recent assertion that Americans are "twice as wealthy as [they] were a short time ago." Federal Reserve data, cited by the chatbot, do not show U.S. household wealth doubling since January 20, 2025. The Fed's "Economic Well-Being of U.S. Households in 2025" report found 73 percent of adults were "doing okay" or "living comfortably," unchanged from recent years.
America.gov disagreed with Trump's claim that the U.S. experienced the "worst inflation ever" under former President Biden. The bot referred to Bureau of Labor Statistics Consumer Price Index data, indicating that the period from January 20, 2021, to January 20, 2025, did not represent the highest inflation in U.S. history.
Other claims Trump made that the chatbot contradicted include his statement at the United Nations that the U.S. and Venezuela possess 60 percent of the world's oil. The bot denied this figure. It also stated there was no widespread voter fraud in the 2020 election, contrary to Trump's assertions.
The chatbot further refuted Trump's claim, made during the America.gov launch, that no other president had refused to take a government salary. It also addressed the attendance at his 2017 inauguration, where his team claimed the "largest audience ever." America.gov indicated that official sources do not support this claim.
