SAN FRANCISCO — OpenAI's annualized revenue run rate is approaching $70 billion, sources familiar with the matter said. This figure represents an increase of more than 70 percent since the beginning of the third quarter.
Enterprise sales have more than doubled since July, with revenue from enterprise clients growing by more than 100 percent. This growth positions OpenAI to potentially reach $100 billion in revenue by 2027, a pace faster than any technology company in history.
OpenAI filed its confidential S-1 on June 8, 2026, signaling its intention for a public listing as early as 2027. This filing followed a period of rapid expansion, with the company’s revenue growing from $1 billion in 2023 to $3.7 billion in 2024, a 270 percent increase.
For 2025, the company expects to reach $12.7 billion in revenue. Sam Altman, OpenAI's CEO, said in June 2024 that the company's ARR stood at $3.4 billion. By Dec. 2024, the estimated ARR had grown to $6 billion, with the CFO indicating $3.7 billion in revenue for the full year 2024.
Revenue growth has been substantial across all segments, including consumer subscriptions, enterprise deployments, AI Agents and API services. ChatGPT consumer paid subscribers increased from 2 million in July 2023 to 15.5 million by Jan. 2025.
OpenAI added 1 million users in a single hour following the release of a new image generation feature. Projections suggest ChatGPT could exceed 30 million subscribers by Aug. 2025, and potentially 62 million by mid-2027.
ChatGPT Enterprise paid subscribers also showed significant expansion, rising from 150,000 in Jan. 2024 to more than 2 million by Feb. 2025. This enterprise growth rate may surpass that of consumer subscriptions.
The market for AI spending saw a substantial increase, with MenloVC estimating a rise to $13.8 billion in 2024. This represents a 500 percent annualized growth from the $2.3 billion spent in 2023.
Prior forecasts placed OpenAI's ARR at roughly $25 billion as of June 11, 2026, with a confirmed $40 billion run rate from third-quarter booked revenue. The current reported figure of nearing $70 billion indicates a sustained acceleration in its financial performance.
