Quartermaster, which deploys hardened sensors on ships to gather real-time maritime intelligence, closed a $140 million Series B: $100 million in equity and a $40 million debt facility from Stifel.
Insight Partners led the round, with defense-focused Overmatch Ventures joining as a new investor alongside existing backers First Round Capital. The funding follows a $43 million Series A in May.
The core product is SmartMast, a sensor package that integrates cameras and radios onto ship masts to capture and relay maritime data beyond the automatic identification system (AIS), which provides only location pings. Each SmartMast generates tens of gigabytes of daily data.
CEO Neil Sobin attributed investor confidence partly to geopolitical events—including shipping disruptions in the Middle East—that have raised demand for maritime awareness among commercial fleets, insurers, and governments.
"The lack of prior art in maritime AI presents a significant opportunity," Sobin said. "We and our customers are continuously discovering new uses for the data." Use cases include collision avoidance, shipping lane congestion analysis, and mariner rescue.
Nick Sinai, managing director at Insight Partners, emphasized the strength of execution and demand for the product. The company engages with governments, shipping companies, and insurance providers to develop new applications for its real-time data insights.
