Mavi, an AI-powered talent marketplace, officially launched Sept. 28, 2026, announcing $4 million in seed funding to connect U.S. enterprises with a vetted global network of over 3,000 accounting and finance professionals.

Founded in 2023 by Molly Liu and Aman Puri, the company operates on a straightforward unit economics play: U.S. finance teams face simultaneous pressures—a shrinking domestic talent pool, rising demand for AI competency, and reluctance to hire internationally due to compliance and management friction. Mavi takes the operational friction out of cross-border hiring, handling contracts, legal compliance, payroll, and onboarding in days rather than months.

The business model targets full-time, long-term placements for mid-level and senior accounting and finance roles, not temporary contract work. The arbitrage: global talent pools at lower cost than U.S. hires, with Mavi capturing a placement fee.

Liu's core thesis hinges on automation paradox. "AI will automate away many entry-level roles in finance and accounting, which will further exacerbate the talent shortage at the mid-level experience level, given there will be less entry-level talent growing into the mid-level over time," she said. This supply squeeze creates structural demand for experienced professionals who can direct AI systems, correct model errors, and apply judgment to financial decisions—work that cannot be fully automated.

As enterprises deploy more AI tools into finance workflows, Liu noted, senior finance teams face mounting pressure to "add more of their reasoning skills" and "do more with less." The new skill set required—classical accounting knowledge combined with the ability to supervise and integrate large language models into workflows—exists in limited supply domestically.

The bet is that this skills gap is durable enough to support a sustainable marketplace business, not a temporary arbitrage. Mavi's success depends on whether demand for AI-literate financial professionals outpaces the rate at which U.S. accountants reskill themselves.
