NUMERAL, the San Francisco-based AI tax compliance software provider, announced a $100 million Series C funding round Wednesday, bringing total funding to $157 million.
Insight Partners led the round, with participation from Salesforce Ventures, Geodesic, Benchmark, Mayfield, FCVC, Y Combinator and Uncork.
Co-founder and Chief Executive Sam Ross said the company's core value lies in automating the full tax compliance lifecycle. "Sales tax is mission-critical to get right, and the complexity is only growing as regulations expand into new products and markets," Ross said. The platform tracks tax obligations, handles registration, calculates rates, files returns, processes payments and manages exemption certificates across more than 90 countries. It integrates with over 40 billing, financial and ERP systems.
Numeral reported 327 percent year-over-year growth in transaction volume, with its tax engine projected to process more than 80 million transactions. Customers report reducing filing and registration time by up to 80 percent. The company also found that 30 to 40 percent of existing exemption certificates fail validation when migrated to its platform—a data point that suggests significant operational friction in the market.
California's decision to extend sales tax to prewritten software and SaaS starting in 2027 exemplifies the regulatory pressure driving demand. Arvind Ayyala, a partner at Geodesic Capital, said the compliance market has historically forced "businesses to choose between expensive manual work and software that still leaves them carrying the operational burden."
Numeral plans to deploy capital into product development and expansion into software, manufacturing, distribution and wholesale verticals. The company will hire across engineering, sales, marketing and product teams.
The firm has also launched an accounting partner program, allowing firms to refer clients, resell the platform, use it to deliver services or advise clients through implementation.
The compliance automation space is heating up. HelmGuard raised $7.3 million for AI compliance agents this month, and Comp AI closed a $34 million round to automate security compliance.
