NEW YORK — Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov declared the end of U.S. global dominance during his speech at the UN General Assembly's 2026 session, calling for a multipolar world order and asserting a shift in international power dynamics.
Lavrov accused the United States of destroying the European security system to constrain Russia and creating what he called a "Russophobic regime in Kyiv."
He characterized Western nations as acting adventurously and unpredictably, stating their actions endanger the lives of billions of people. Lavrov claimed that leaders in many European Union countries are "infected with the virus of racial superiority" and condone the spread of Nazism.
On Ukraine, Lavrov asserted that Europe and the United States are actively working to disrupt peace talks and have an interest in preventing a peaceful resolution. He claimed both turn a blind eye to manifestations of Nazism within Ukraine.
At a subsequent press conference, Lavrov reiterated that Russia will eliminate all threats from Kyiv based on its ongoing military operation.
Lavrov also addressed Iran, describing the assassination of the supreme leader and other authorities as an unacceptable use of force. He said restoring trust between Arab countries and Iran is necessary to resolve tensions around the Strait of Hormuz.
On Venezuela, Lavrov conveyed Moscow's demand for the immediate release of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, and for prevention of similar incidents in the future.
Regarding Serbia, Lavrov stated that Belgrade faces pressure to impose sanctions against Moscow for the sake of joining the European Union.
