Binance has acquired $100 million in Circle stock and signed a five-year strategic agreement to integrate USDC across its platform. The move makes Binance a direct shareholder in the issuer of USDC, the second-largest stablecoin by market cap.
The partnership is explicitly designed to compete with Tether's USDT. USDC currently trades at $32 billion in market capitalization versus USDT's $105 billion, according to CoinGecko data. Binance's institutional-grade support could materially shift stablecoin flows. The exchange plans to roll out USDC-centric trading pairs and promotional campaigns over the next six months.
The deal also strengthens Circle's position ahead of a potential public offering. Binance's equity stake boosts Circle's valuation and signals confidence in its regulatory trajectory—a key metric for institutions evaluating stablecoin counterparty risk. For traders, the integration creates immediate execution advantages: tighter USDC spreads on Binance's volume and deeper liquidity in USDC pairs across altcoins.
